Build over 100 duck nesting structures for Ohio!
August 11th, 2007...The first Annual Nesting Structure Build Day was a great success completed with twin efforts...

In the
North Zone OWA members in conjunction with Delta Waterfowl's Crooked River Chapter put on a family day for kids to learn about waterfowl and help build mallard and wood duck nesting structures to be placed in Killbuck Marsh and other areas of NE Ohio.

Meanwhile in the
South Zone, Southern VP Aaron Lynch hosted a nesting structure build day for those not able to travel to Killbuck.

All togther, over 100 mallard and wood duck nesting structures were constructed for placement by the ODNR and OWA members.
OWA North Zone VP Mike Petkovich had this to say about the Killbuck Build...
A great day indeed! I think we put together close to 50 hen houses and a dozen wood duck tubes.  I would like to thank Kevin Higgins, the Area Manager at Killbuck, and his crew and also Dan Kramer, the Division #3 Wildlife Manager, for their support, their site, and their Saturday morning.  We couldn't have had any more accommodating hosts for this event. A big thanks also goes out to John Barsa from Buck Gardner Calls, he put on quite a show for the kids.

To me personally, this type of event is really what the OWA is all about! Next Spring, the nesting structure we built today will go into place and make a real difference in the field. The kids that were there today will remember this 20 years from now and hopefully take their kids to a similar event because of the fond memories that they have of this one. And finally, we partnered with a couple of great organizations, the ODNR and Delta Waterfowl, to make it happen.  Last but certainly not least, I'd like to thank Shawn Philbrick and Dave Gelhar for providing the funds from their Delta Chapter to make this event possible. I think it was money well spent guys!
More pictures will be added from the events, so stop back soon !!!
